Korea War Monument to the Imjin River Battle ![]() ![]() ![]() Situated just before entering the town of Munsan along Tongil-ro, this park has a number of historically memorable monuments commemorating war heroes of the Korean War, including "War-Correspondents Monument," "Loyal Monument for the Ten Human Bombs," "Monument to 2nd Lt. Kim Man-sul," and "Monument to Colonel Yi Yu-chung." ![]() ![]() This tower was built on May 3, 1980, for the memory of the Ten Human Bombs belonging to the 11th regiment, 1st Infantry Division, during the Mt. Gae Ma Go Won Memorial Tower This memorial tower was built for the memory of about 200 anti-communist resistance fighters who were either captured or killed in the bloody battle around Gae Ma Go Won during the Korea War. ![]() Visitors can view a part of North Korean life from this observation platform, the nearest point to North Korea from South Korea. This 304 sq. ft., 500-person capacity observation platform was constructed following the closing of the Mt. Songak Observation Platform. It is located on Mt. Dora in Gunnnae-myeon, Paju. 3rd Infiltration Tunnel Only 44 kilometers from Seoul (less than an hour's drive), the third tunnel was discovered in October 1978. Almost identical in structure to Tunnel 2, the 1.635 kilometer-long tunnel is 1.95 meters high and 2.1 meters wide. It penetrates 435 meters south of the Military Demarcation Line at a point 4 kilometers south of the Panmunjeom, running through bedrock at a depth of about 73 meters below ground. Capable of moving a full division (plus their weapons) per hour, it was evidently designed for a surprise attack on Seoul. This tunnel is only 2 kilometers from a key outpost defending the Munsan corridor leading to Seoul.
![]() The Observation Platform is about 30 minutes from Seoul. Visitors can view North Korea across the Imjin River. Because of its closeness to Seoul, many foreign visitors come here. Guides explain about North Korean life in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
