Seated Stone Buddha of Gwanbong
Treasure No.431This sculpture is considered a masterpiece representative of large Buddhas of the ninth century. The drugpot in its lefthand indicates that it is Bhaisajyaguru, the Buddha of Medicine. The usanisa, protuberance on top of the head indicative of supreme wisdom is quite visible despite the unusual hat-like piece. The positioning of the hands, symbolic of expelling evils, is of a style prevalent in 8th century Buddhas. The modeling of the robe is somewhat natural.
