Chokseok-nu Pavilion

Ch'okseok-nu Since its construction in 1365, this pavilion has been repaired seven times. Overlooking the Nam-gang (River), Ch'okseok-nu commands a fine view of the southern part of Korea. As such, it was used as a military command post for the defense of Jinju Castle during times of war. During more peacful times, it acted as a place for preliminary civil service exam testing (giving it a secondary name of Changwon-nu).Burned down during the Korean War (1950-53), the pavilion was restored in May 1960 by the Jinju Historic Relics Preservation Society.

Chok003 Nearby the pavilion is Uigisa Shrine, dedicated to the loyal and patriotic kisaeng Nongae, who leapt to her death from a nearby rock into the Nam River while embracing one of the Japanese generals. The rock is called Ui-am and it continues to overlook the unceasingly flowing steam of human history.

Shrine for General Ha Kong-jin
This holy shrine contains the portrait and memorial tablet of the late General Ha Kong-jin who was a faithful subject in the Koryo Dynasty. It has been used for offering religious services in memory of his exploits. General Ha was a meritorious subject during the first year of the reign of King Hyeon-jong (A.D. 1010). He not only defended the crisis of the royal household domestically, but also repelled the 400,000 troops of the Kitan abroad. He gave up his life while held hostage an enemy.
