In addition to being a popular nightlife destination for thousands of college students looking
to drink and party, Daehang-no contains many galleries
and theaters for showcasing art and performing arts, and is the home of the Korean Culture
and Arts Foundation. The area runs for just over a kilometer between the Hyehwa-dong Rotary
and Ihwa-dong intersection and contains over 100 cafes. Marrionnier Park often has open
air performances and street musicians and makes a great location for people watching.
Once the location of Seoul National University's College of Arts and Science, the area still
houses many schools, including Sungkyunkwan University, Hansung university, Korea Air and
Correspondence University, Catholic College, and Seoul National University's Medical and
Dental Colleges. Just to the west is Changgyeong
Palace, one of Seoul's royal palaces.
Food and Drink:
Daehang-no has no shortage of restaurants, fast food places,
bars, night clubs, rock cafes, and food stands, catering to almost every taste. The largest and
most popular ones generally front the main road or stand a short distance back. However, you can
also make some excellent finds off the beaten track.
