Bokcheon-dong Museum

Life in Korea rating: 4 Average member rating: N/A (0 ratings)
Bokcheon-dong museum is a branch museum of Busan city built on the location of ancient tombs in Bokcheon-dong. The museum was created as a park with an historical concept and presentation based on the historical investigation of the local tombs. In addition to indoor exhibition rooms is an outdoor dome exhibition room. The site of each tomb is indicated by a planting box tree, giving the visitor an idea of the overall historical layout of the area.

bc-mes019 Although not as glorious as some museums in Gyeongju or Seoul, its significance lies in its clues to unravelking the historical and cultural relationship between Japan and Korea at the time of Gaya Dynasty and Three Kingdoms period. These periods are relatively unknown, while the museums of Gyeongju and Seoul museums focus on the relics of Silla and unified Silla, about which more is known.

In the outdoor exhibition room of ancient tombs, the 53rd and 54th tombs are preserved intact. There is also an outdoor experiment field. The 1st floor has a movie room, and No. 1 exhibition room depicts the life of the Samhan, Gaya, and Three Kingdoms periods. The 2nd exhibition room on the 2nd floor contains many relics, such as bowls made of earth, metal tools, ornaments, horse saddles, and armor. You can buy entrance tickets in front of the museum or from ticket vending machines just inside the building (instructions in Korean, Japanese, and English).

Anyone with an interest in ancient history will be fascinated by the museum. It represents the only place that visitors can trace history back to before the origins of golden crown and blue china of Goryeo Dynasty and the white china of Joseon dynasty, which Seoul and Gyeongju museums display. The area has many other attractions, and visitors could easily spend an entire day enjoying them, including Dongnaehyanggyo, Dongnaebu Dongheon, Dongnaepaechong, Chungnyeol-sa, and Dongnae-eup Seong. From May to November, the various flowers and trees in the area make it exceptionally beautiful.
