Suanbo Hot Springs, located 21 kms south of downtown Chungju City, is a long historical spring which has existed since the ninth year of King Hyonjong of the Koryo Kingdom in 1018, according to the Goryeosa History Book.
Other old documents also say the spring site was always crowded with many scholars like Yeon Chang-wui, son-in-law of King Sejong of the Joseon Dynasty, and Minister Gwon Nam, as well as ordinary people for bathing throughout the year.
The acidity level of the spring water is 8.3. The water has a very smooth surface without smell, color or taste. The water temperature is 53 degrees Celsius and the water contains various useful minerals which are known to be effective for neuralgia, skin diseases, gastrointestinal diseases and fatigue.
