Founded in 654, the grounds have been burned to ashes on a number of occassions. The latest reconstruction finished in 1969. A 9-story pagoda on the grounds has been classified as National Treasure #48. Sangwon-sa Temple Deeper into the Park, Sangwon-sa Temple has also suffered damage from fires, most recently burning to the ground in 1949. Slightly younger than Wolcheongsa, construction here began in 662. The following year, Korea's second largest bronze bell (National Treasure #36) was cast here.
