Yongheung Palace

Life in Korea rating: 3 Average member rating: N/A (0 ratings)
Before his ascension to the throne, King Cheoljong, the 25th ruler of the Joseon period, lived here. Jeong Gi-se, chief of Ganghwa County, enlarged the original residence, naming it Yongheung-gung or the Palace of Rising Dragon, in the fourth year of the reign of the King (1853). Yi Jae-sun, a member of the royal family, rebuilt the residence in 1903. It has since been designated Tangible Cultural Property #20. This simple building with servants' rooms on both sides of the main gate was built in the tradition of the Yeongyeong-dang and Nakseon-jae houses in Seoul's Changdoek Palace. The dilapidated building was rebuilt in 1974.
