
Kim, Cheong-hi (pen name: Ch'usa), was a major government official during the
Chosun Dynasty (1392-1910).
For his involvement in a political plot in 1840, he was exiled to Jeju Island. He
lived in a house belonging to Kang, To-san, until finally pardoned by the king 8 years
later. The traditional house has been maintained in memorial to Kim, Cheong-hi.

A leading scholar and calligrapher, he taught Confucian classics and art during his stay.
his personal style of writing combined several different writing styles. The synthesis was
named Ch'usa style after his pen name. During his stay here, he produced many
works of art, combining calligraphy and painting.
