This garden displays a thousand artistic works of wood, five thousand works of stone in the image of
human heads, and one hundred other works in stone. Most of the wood collections were made from the
roots of Jorok namu, which grows in the subtropical forest zone on
Halla-san. The stones and trees here are living and have their
own tales. As you look around the park, you can feel the strength and liveliness of the Jeju people.
The garden itself was designated a Protected Area in 1977.

Stone towers show the appearance of Solmundae Grandmother (the famous, legendary grandmother
of Cheju) and her 500 children. The most famous exhibition (titled "The Life of Kapdol")
is about joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness in human life. There are a series of stone sets named
"Kapdol" and "Kapsun" which show each stage of life. These stone sets are
especially popular among newlywed couples.

The unusual Jorok namu roots were left to rot away in the soil for hundreds of years. The
roots were naturally sculpted over time as softer parts dissolved in the soil, leaving only the
hard parts. Jorok namu has been used to make combs, furniture, and coffin lids due to its
hard, woody fiber. Twenty items with special artistic significance were designated as Local Cultural
Assets in 1973 and are tastefully exhibited with their own names such as "Great Leap,"
"Howl," "Fantasy," and "Revolution."
