Songak-san Peak

Life in Korea rating: 3 Average member rating: N/A (0 ratings)
Songak-san At the southernmost point of Jeju Island, several small peaks connect with each other. Songak-san ("pine tree peak") forms a series of cliffs giving a broad view to the south, as well as the rest of the island. Here you can see many of the symbols of Jeju all at once: imposing Halla Mountain, enigmatic Sangban Mountain, majestic cliffs rising from the sea, horses grazing through fields of grass, and several small islands off the coast, including Mara-do, Korea's most southern piece of real estate.

caves At sea level, 15 small, artificial caves remind visitors that Jeju Island was not always so peaceful. During Japan's occupation of Korea (1910-1945), Japanese soldiers ordered these caves made for the storage of supplies and weapons during World War II. Altogether, Jeju has about 100 of these caves, and they serve as a reminder of Korea's tumultuous past.
