Namhae-gun used to be an isolated place that could be reached only by ship. In 1973, after more than 5 years
of construction, the 660-meter long, 80-meter high, and 12-meter wide girder Namhae Bridge was completed,
connecting Hadong Noryang and Namhae Noryang. One of the major landmarks in Hallyeo Haesang National Park,
this bridge commands a picturesque view of the small port and surrounding waters far below. The Noryang area
also has a prominant place in history as the spot where Admiral Lee Sun-sin, one of Korea's greatest military
heroes, destroyed the Japanese fleet during the famous battle of Noryang Daejeon.
