Synopsis

A classic tale of struggle between the forces of good and evil that takes place in a realm of gods and goddess. Beyond all mortal time and space, an alien pantheon is ruled over by the wise and benevolent King of the gods, 'Karis' and his love, beautiful 'Aria'-the goddess of the Moon.

"Asura"-the greedy god who was once the radiant god of North and now covets the throne occupied by Karis, has managed to steal the ruby-coloured enchanted Fruit which bestows omnipotence on anyone who possesses it...

A classic tale of fate, love and conspiracy is about to start...

Multi-Arts Performance

In this shocking, mysterious and profoundly beautiful show, experience the thrill and sheer intensity of Contemporary Korean theatre. "KARMA" is a spectacular combination of martial arts, ritual and dance, revealing awesome powers of mental and physical concentration.

The cast includes Martial Arts Grand Masters (Gods) performing impressive katas (sequences) with swords, rods and spears. The power of these katasis counterbalanced by graceful dancers (Goddess) whose dances with fans, bells and lighted incense draw on Korean Contemporary Dance. The drama is further enhanced by the production of elegant black and white paintings produced live during the performance.

Painting Meets Performance -The Five Gracious Plants

In Confucian thought, there are four plants known as the Four Gracious Plants, which represent the qualities of a learned scholar. With grace and a gradually mounting energy, these plants are painted live during the performance on a canvas at the back of the stage. In this manner, KARMA incorporates visual art into staged performance.
