About KTX

With the historical opening of the express rail in April 2004, Korea has joined the league of France, Japan, Germany and Spain and entered into the super high-speed train era, operating at speeds of 300km per hour. Opening of the express rail, which has been referred to as the biggest national policy project since the national foundation, will not only bring about enormous changes to the lives of Koreans by enabling them to reach anywhere in the country within three hours, but it will also have a huge influence on the economic, social and cultural aspects of the country. Fast, safe, convenient and environmentally friendly, the express rail is a product of the latest technology and will secure its position as the newest and most preferred method of transportation for the next generation.

  • Gyeongbu Line: Seoul (Yongsan) -> Gwangmyeong -> Cheonan, Asan -> Daejeon -> East Daegu -> milyang -> Gupo -> Busan
  • Honam Line: Seoul (Yongsan) -> Gwangmyeong -> Cheonan, Asan -> West Daejeon -> Nonsan -> Iksan -> Gimje -> Jeongeup -> Jangseong -> Songjeongli -> Naju -> Mokpo

Fares

The basic fare has been set at an average of 25% higher than that of the Saemaeul line trains.
Special compartment fare has been set at 140% of the basic fare by considering the wider space and pleasant facilities.

Ticket Purchase

How to make a reservation
Reservation for KTX passenger tickets can be made conveniently at ticket counters in the station, travel agents, automatic ticketing machines or via the Internet.
  • Reservations and ticketing are possible from 09:00am, two months in advance up to one hour prior to departure of the corresponding train
  • When the person making a reservation is different from the person boarding the train, the person making a reservation may pay for the ticket.
  • When there is no available seat, apply to go on the reservation waiting list through the Internet (two days prior to departure). Cancelled seats are automatically allocated to those on the waiting list.
  • A reserved ticket purchasing deadline system has been adopted to automatically cancel reservations when the corresponding ticket is not purchased or paid for within the designated period after making a reservation,
Discount system
KTX employs a variety of discount systems. For more detailed information on ticket discounts, please make an inquiry at the ticket counters in any KTX station.
  • Discount offered on the day of reservation (maximum of 20%) according to the ticket early phase 4 types of discount cards (youth, business, group, elderly) are on sale to receive discounts for a specified period (maximum of 30%)
  • For transit passengers to the Saemaeul and Mugunghwa lines, a 30% discount on fares will be applied
  • Commuter tickets will be on sale for customers using KTX on a regular basis for travelling to work and school (60% discount)
  • 10% discount to group passengers of 10 or more
  • Discount on seats for accompanying children (75% discount of the adult's fare)
  • Discount for using the automatic ticketing machine (1%)
