Seoul has been the capital of Korea for over 600 years. In addition, Seoul is South Korea's central city for government, business, education, and modern culture. As such, the city is very crowded and Seoul hotels are very pricey. However, good bargains can still be found. The most popular areas for hotels in Seoul are Gangnam-gu, the downtown area (Chungmu-ro, Eulji-ro, and Taepyeong-ro), Yeongdeungpo (Yeouido "Island"), and Yongsan-gu (near the U.S. Military base). Because Seoul is more than 1 hour from Incheon International Airport (ICN), almost no hotels operate their own airport shuttles service. Gimpo Airport (SEL) is located in Gangseo-gu.
